Symmetrics Cycling - Future Olympians Riding for Special Olympians - dedicates training and cycling efforts to helping others
Future Olympians Riding for Special Olympians – Symmetrics Cycling dedicates training and cycling efforts to helping others.
VANCOUVER, BC. - Symmetrics Cycling has adopted an innovative approach to charitable giving and community involvement; its members have chosen to dedicate their training and cycling efforts to helping others through the newly founded Cyclists for Charity program.
To this end, Cyclists for Charity is pleased to announce its first community alliance - a unique association with the British Columbia Special Olympics organization. In partnership with B.C. Special Olympics, Symmetrics Cycling is committed to helping individuals with a mental disability attain personal achievement through positive sports experiences.
Dan Howe, Executive Director for B.C. Special Olympics, welcomes the relationship and enthuses, "B.C. Special Olympics is very pleased that Symmetrics Cycling has chosen us as the recipient charity for this very innovative fundraising project. The dedication these cyclists have to their sport is incredible. For them to be able to look beyond themselves, to want their efforts and hard work to benefit others, is truly extraordinary."
Cyclists for Charity – How it works
The club is appealing to both individuals and corporations to explore this new avenue of charitable giving. Through two unique frameworks, the Tour Program and the racing team’s Jersey Program, sponsors can benefit a very worthy recipient. All donations will receive a full tax receipt from the B.C. Special Olympics organization.
The Tour Program – No Pain No Gain
Each Symmetrics Cycling club member logs thousands of kilometres every year. For 2003, the club expects to ride a combined total of 325,000 kilometres. Symmetrics Cycling is appealing to individual sponsors to give to B.C. Special Olympics through its Tour Program. Individuals are encouraged to pledge money for each 10 km logged throughout the year. In turn, the Gary M. Cunningham (GMC) Memorial Fund will match all pledges made through the Tour Program, thereby, doubling the value of the donation to B.C. Special Olympics.
GMC Memorial Fund - Doubling the contribution without doubling the mileage
The GMC Memorial Fund was created to remember and honor the memory of Gary Michael Cunningham, an avid cyclist and brother to the founders of Symmetrics Cycling, Kevin and Mark Cunningham. The doubling of contributions to B.C. Special Olympics through the Tour Program is made possible by matching donations from this fund
The Jersey Program – The shirt off your back
Symmetrics’ six-member elite racing team has decided to raise the stakes of their racing success by linking their achievements to Cyclists for Charity’s Jersey Program. Every time a Symmetrics racer earns a podium win (1st, 2nd or 3rd place), corporate and individual donors will make a donation to Special Olympics. Symmetrics Cycling is confident that this added incentive will effectively motivate the team and culminate in a season more celebrated and successful than the last.
